Request a Credential

Welcome, pilgrim! We hope you are enjoying the preparations for your pilgrimage!

While on their journey along the Camino de Santiago, pilgrims carry a credential or pilgrim's passport (credencial in Spanish), a document with which the pilgrim authenticates his or her progress by obtaining stamps (sellos in Spanish) along the way. Sellos can be obtained at most hotels and inns, restaurants, bars, churches, museums, city halls, post offices and at all albergues.

When registering at an albergue, pilgrims will be asked to present a credential to verify they are walking or cycling the Camino. In addition, upon reaching Santiago de Compostela, at the Oficina de Acogida de Peregrinos (Pilgrim's Reception Office) at Rúa Carretas 33, pilgrims can present their completed credential to confirm they have walked at least the last 100 kilometers or cycled at least the last 200 kilometers and received at least two sellos per day. The pilgrim can then receive a Compostela, a document certifying their pilgrimage.

American Pilgrims on the Camino is pleased to provide credentials authorized by the Pilgrim's Office in Santiago de Compostela. We are able to fill credential requests at no charge to individuals, families and small groups requesting up to 6 credentials total. Fields for additional credential names, if any, will be available after completing this page. Membership in American Pilgrims is not required to receive a credential, but donations are gratefully accepted.

Your name will be printed on your credential exactly as it is entered on this form.

We recommend entering your name as it appears on your government-issued passport.

Please allow three weeks to deliver your document before you leave home. Credentials are available at almost all starting points on the various Caminos if your departure date is within three weeks.
